With winter left behind, it is time to look ahead to the spring season and enjoy this colorful and lovely occasion! Yes! You’ll experience Lathmaar Holi this time with our Greeter at Barsana – the world’s favourite destination for the festival of colours! Excited? Here’s the plan:
Breakfast in Agra :
After breakfast proceed for a day excursion to Barsana to witness the famous Lathmaar Holi of Barsana (approximately 02 hours’ drive).
Upon arrival in Barsana, we will leave our car at the parking and walk towards the Barsana village. In the village, we will take our positions on a rooftop to have a view of streets where Holi celebration will take place. We have to reach Barsana 2-3 hours prior to the celebration to get the best location.
Today the famous lath mar Holi is celebrated in Barsana. Here, men from Nandgaon, the land of Krishna come to play Holi with the girls of Barsana hoping to raise their flag over Shri Radhikaji's temple. But, instead of colours they are greeted with sticks by the gopis. Hence, this Holi gets its name – Lathmaar Holi. Smart enough men come fully padded as they are fully aware what kind of welcome awaits them and also the fact that they are not allowed to retaliate on that day.
In this mock battle of sorts, they try their best not to be captured. The unlucky ones however, are forcefully led away and get a good thrashing from the women.
Packed Lunch and Water Bottle will be provided.
Enjoy the colorful celebration of Holi in Barsana. In the evening drive back to Agra and transfer to your hotel.
- As you pass the woods where Lord Krishna frolicked with the Gopis and tenderly wooed Radha and learn about this cow-herding community where he spent his childhood.
- Lathmar Holi Experience in Barsana will be conducted only on 17th March 2016.
