Providing a significant push to the tourism sector, the Government of India launched the much-needed online visa facility which would enable citizens from 43 countries, which includes United States, Australia, Germany, Singapore, Israel, and Japan among others to apply for a visa online. So, those who are planning to visit India would not have to go through much paperwork and simply apply for a visa sitting in the comfort of their home.
Availing the online visa facility, you can now apply for a visa online and would be issued an electronic travel authorization (ETA) within the 72 hours of the receipt of your online application. All you need to do is just visit the concerned website and apply for a visa and pay the fixed fee of $ 62. Once your visa application is reviewed and approved by the visa department, you would receive an e-mail authorizing you to travel to India which would be valid for a 30 day period.
After you have received the e-mail, you just have to take out a printout of the same and produce it before the immigration authorities when you arrive in India. The immigration department would verify the details and it would be stamped to authorize your entry into the country. So, whether you want to meet your close friends and relatives, enjoy a leisure trip, a short duration medical medical treatment or even a casual business visit to India, you would be eligible for a visa under the new online visa norms. This online visa facility would be available at nine airports, which includes Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Goa, Kochi, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthpuram and Kolkata.
However, you would have to apply atleast 4 days before your arrival in India to be eligible for a visa under the online facility. Also, you cannot avail the online visa facility to get a visa more than two times in a year.
Apart from these rules, other initiatives introduced include doing away with the mandatory two months’ gap between two successive visits and also with the procedure of filling the embarkation and disembarkation cards on arrival and departure in India. Another major initiative would allow payment of visa fee using credit/debit card. The online visa facility would be soon extended to other countries in a phased manner.
The eased visa norms would definitely make the visa application process a lot easier for those who want to travel to India and is expected to provide the much needed push to the tourism sector in India.
The Tourist Visa-on-Arrival enabled with ETA Scheme will facilitate nationals of 43 countries including Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Cook Islands, Djibouti, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Finland, Germany, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Kingdom of Tongo, Laos, Luxembourg, Mauritius, Mexico, Myanmar, New Zealand, Niue, Norway, Oman, Palestine, Papua & New Guinea, Philippines, Republic of Kiribati, Republic of Korea (i.e. South Korea), Republic of Marshall Islands, Republic of Nauru, Republic of Palau, Russia, Samoa, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Thailand, Tuvalu, UAE, Ukraine, USA, Vietnam and Vanuatu.
