India is rich with street foods. Every Indian city has its own speciality in street food. There are so many vendors who are in the street food business for generations and thus they create authentic Indian street food. But when you are coming from outside India where spices are not the main content on the recipe, you should not indulge yourself in Indian street food at once even if they look tempting.
Indian streets are very famous for its cheap and tasty varieties of food. Every city has its specialty in feeding your taste buds with different cuisine. Our national capital Delhi is famous for its variety in street foods. Now I am going to tell you about some famous road side foods.
CHHOLE BHATURE (Delhi): It’s quite famous in all over India though basically it’s a Punjabi cuisine. Other famous roadside mouth-watering foods are Rajma Chawal, Parathe and Chaat. The last snack is very spicy but very tasty. But before you taste it, you must be familiar with our rich spices.
VADA PAV (Mumbai): This mouth-watering and most popular snack comes straight from the heart of Maharashtra. You can call it the Indian version of burger only the tasty Vada Pav comes with a filling of fried potato. Other tasty snacks of Mumbai are Pav Bhaji, Misal Pav, Pani Puri etc.
AALOO TIKKI (Lucknow): Aaloo Tikki is basically boiled potatoes served with various spices and sauce. Galuti Kebab is one of the royal cuisines of Lucknow. It is also the most famous roadside food there.
KACHORI (Bikaner): The splendid taste of the Kachoris can be tasted in the Royal state of India, Rajasthan. You can get the Kachoris in almost every street shop. The Bikeneri Kachoris are too famous amongst the Locals. You can also taste Pakoda, Mawa and Dal-Baati-Churma in the streets of Rajasthan.
POHA JALEBI (Indore): Poha Jalebi is the most famous road side cuisine of the streets of the state called the ‘heart of India’ along with a wide range of namkeen, samosa, chaats, lapsi and bafla but the Poha Jalebi of Indore is considered to be the best in the world.
EGG ROLLS (Kolkata): Kolkata’s famous roadside food is Egg Rolls. Phuchka or Golgappe too is considered to be the most favourite of the locals.
DABELI (Ahmadabad): This is a very popular and spicy snack. It can be found on the streets of Mumbai, Pune and other cities in India but it is widely famous on the streets of Gujarat.
AKKI ROTI (Bangalore): Akki Roti is a very delicious and famous Tiffin snack of Bangalore served with Coconut Chutney. Dosa and Sambar can also please your taste buds.
IDLI SAMBHAR (Chennai): This food is less spicy and very delicious. The coconut chutney adds up the wow in this South Indian cuisine.
MIRCHI BHAJJI (Hyderabad): This is basically fried chillies stuffed with different fillings. This is used mostly as appetizer in Hyderabad. But if you are not very much accustomed with chillies it’s better not to try this right away. Other tasty cuisines of Hyderabad are Biriyani, Dosa, Idli etc.
The Biriyani is a Mughal cuisine so normally it’s spicy. Other some famous street foods which you can find in all over India are Momo (North-East India), Bamboo Shots, Buddhi-Ke-Baal, Gola (it’s basically icecream), Raagda Rav, Sabudana Pav, Bhel Puri, Papri Chaat etc.
But before choose to have any of the above please make sure that your body is accustomed with the spices of India. The food can be terrible for your health if you don’t check the hygiene properly. If you keep your eyes and taste buds open you can get the yummy food even on the streets.
