Let’s take a look at the prospect of being an aide when you’re on a trip. There is always the other side to the world – the one less privileged than the rest of us. Most of us. The one forlorn. This post aims to highlight two such causes you can take up when on a visit to the city of dreams to help them ‘realize’ theirs, or ‘relive’ theirs. Your contribution, even in the form of your time, to the ‘will be’ and the ‘have been’ of the city, will be gratifying to you as well as to the ones you give your bit to.
Help me thee, with A,B,C…?
The street kids who now have the privilege to get a formal education are helped outside of school here. The Pavement Club and the Pavement School, an outreach of the Church of St. Andrew and St. Columba is situated at 11, Hazarimal Somani Marg, Fort, Mumbai 400001. The Pavement School helps the street children, by getting volunteers to tutor them to supplement their studies, helping them in developing their creative and artistic abilities in the evenings. They are also given a free meal, either in afternoon or breakfast if the sessions are conducted in the mornings. The Pavement Club makes the most of their weekend (Friday evening) involves recreational activities, watching television, and fun and games. They are served food as well certain items of daily necessities; kids also have medical check-ups as well as are provided with clothing giving them a sense of belonging, and love and care of a family. Help in the form of spending time with them in tutoring would definitely turn your trip into a ‘good cause’.
The Navjot Foundation at Carter Road,Bandra also works on the same lines by helping the street kids in their studies, thereby making them capable to be at par with the other kids attending school.
Lend an ear, for Grandma here may have a lot to share!
